Coherence in planning
EYFS
Firm foundations are crucial for building a wall - real - or literally in learning.
In Nursery, we draw on resources including White Rose Maths and Number Blocks to support our bespoke learning plan. A rigorous programme of overlearning guides and targets our pupils’ diverse needs, building their attention and listening skills, language and retention. Children grow in confidence through familiar patterns of learning, enabling them to build on their knowledge and experiences.
These experiences are built on in Reception, where we follow the Power Maths Programme. The consistent use of language patterns and stem sentences, the use of structural apparatus and models to scaffold learning are essential in supporting our young learners to flourish and achieve.
KS1 and KS2
Through our bespoke, cyclical design to planning, we advocate a mastery approach to teaching and learning. Our plans are designed to meet the aims and objectives of the NC and promote depth of learning before breadth.
We do not adhere to one scheme, rather meet the needs of our learners through sources such as Power Maths, White Rose, NCETM and technology, to resource lessons.
Long-term plans: yearly term by term overview of key learning, NC and ready to progress expectations, PAL and overlearn expectations.
Medium-term plans: detailed programme of learning, key vocabulary, representations and resources.
Short-term plans: Here→ There → How? |

Key questions:
What do I want learners to learn?
What do I want learners to explore?
What do I want learners to notice?
What do I want learners to say?
Helping our learners retain, recall, reason and problem solve.
Knowledge mats in Y1 – Y6 are printed in our exercise books. As a go-to point of reference, they support children in their learning, jog their memory on key taught concepts and provide overlearn opportunities. Representations, scaffolds, images of concrete resources, mathematical processes and terminology are all included; whilst sentence stems to support mathematical reasoning and our STAR problem-solving strategies are also exemplified.
