As a Theologist (RE)...
At our Parkgate, we are committed to creating a nurturing environment where every child feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential. Our diverse community is at the heart of everything we do, fostering a sense of belonging and celebration of differences. We ensure that each child feels respected, regardless of their background, and has the opportunity to learn from the rich variety of cultures, perspectives, and experiences around them. By prioritising inclusivity, mutual respect, and personal growth, we aim to build a strong foundation for every child to become a confident, compassionate individual who contributes positively to both their community and the wider world.
We believe that education goes beyond academic achievement. Alongside our focus on religious education, we place a strong emphasis on personal development and social responsibility. We nurture each child’s emotional growth, encouraging them to be kind, respectful, and empathetic towards others. Through our curriculum, we promote critical thinking, resilience, and the importance of making positive choices. We are committed to helping our students develop into responsible, thoughtful individuals who not only understand their own values but also appreciate their role in the wider community and the impact they can have on the world around them.
We are dedicated to instilling the core British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs. These values are central to our teaching and are woven into everything we do, helping our students to understand the importance of fairness, respect, and responsibility. By fostering an environment where these values are embraced, we aim to equip our children with the skills and attitudes needed to be active, positive citizens in a diverse and ever-changing society. We believe that promoting these values not only supports academic success but also helps to shape well-rounded individuals who will contribute to a harmonious and just community.
This academic year we have used Kapow to support our teaching of RE as we develop our understanding of the updated Coventry SACRE scheme. The new scheme will equip pupils with an understanding of the key beliefs of the six major religions practised in Britain, ways these beliefs are expressed and the impact that an individual’s world view has on their life and the lives of others.
The teaching of RE will take a 'religion and worlds view' approach, the syllabus with the particular (e.g. individual & communal worldviews) and moves towards the general (e.g. knowledge of recognisable familial traits from organised worldviews), It makes use of the immediate context and available resources and has a large focus on the ways in which people live, the diversity of embodied religion and the hermeneutical nature of beliefs as interpreted and lived.
